In a world that constantly pulls us in a thousand directions—through screens, opinions, trends, and noise—it’s easy to lose our spiritual footing. We get distracted, overwhelmed, and sometimes, unknowingly distant from the One who created us. But in the midst of the chaos, there’s one path that brings clarity, stability, and peace: obedience to The Most High.
Obedience isn’t always talked about as a grounding force, but it absolutely is. In a culture that encourages doing “what feels right,” obedience to the Creator asks us to do what is right—even when it’s uncomfortable or inconvenient. And while that may seem restricting to some, in truth, it’s where freedom lives. It gives you more of a chance at life than anything outside of it ever will. Its equivalent to relying on discipline over motivation. Many only learn on a dieting or fitness journey to lose or gain weight, that simply motivation alone isn’t or wasn’t enough to get them to where they desired to be. There are days where you just don’t FEEL like doing anything at all or eating healthy because you are craving ice cream and funnel cake after you already had donuts. (Too far? you get the point). Discipline is the action of not just knowing what’s right but wanting what’s right bad enough that it doesn’t feel like you are trying so hard or going out the way to do what is pleasing to The Most High because it is pleasing to you as well. (Proverbs 13:24;19:18; 22:12)
When we choose obedience, we choose alignment. We’re saying, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” And in that surrender, we’re reminded that The Most High’s plans are far greater, wiser, and more loving than our own.
David, a man after The Most High’s own heart, demonstrated what it means to live a life of obedience and submission—even with imperfections. Despite his failures, David consistently returned to The Most High in humility and repentance. He sought His guidance before going into battle, praised Him in both victory and loss, and submitted to His correction when he went astray. David’s relationship with The Most High was marked by deep reverence, trust, and a willingness to align his heart—even when it required vulnerability and surrender. His life reminds us that obedience doesn’t require perfection, only a sincere desire to follow. Thus, his example was used all throughout the rest of scripture during times where The Most High was angry, He remembered His promise to David, His beloved who had a heart for Him and only Him. (1 Samuel Chapter 16 – 1 Kings Chapter 2)
Our own obedience won’t always look like dramatic acts of sacrifice. Often, it’s found in the quiet, daily decisions: forgiving when it’s hard, saying no to what distracts us, honoring the Sabbath, walking in love when we’d rather walk away, or trusting His timing when we’re tempted to rush ahead.
In these moments, obedience becomes a spiritual compass. It pulls us back when we drift. It steadies our heart when the world feels shaky. And most importantly, it keeps us close to the heart of The Father.
Obedience isn’t just about rules—it’s about relationship. It’s how we live in alignment with the One who created us for purpose and destiny. He gives us free will because not only out of love but truly who would want to be loved or feel loved by robots? If He has created us all to love Him out of force, would He feel loved? Would you even know if you willingly love Him or not? While we have free will, He does make it clear that outside of obedience is disobedience which leads to death or rather a not so fulfilled or blessed life. He makes it clear that He will not force us to do what’s right but only tell us what is right and wrong, to give us a chance and leave the choice up to our own hearts of desire. (Deuteronomy 30:16-20)
So in this noisy, ever-shifting world, may we find peace in obeying the unchanging will of The Most High. Out of healthy fear and love, which is deep respect for The One who created us all. Not just to earn His presence, but to remain rooted in it.
Obedience is not the end of freedom—it’s the beginning of it. It is the way we come back to balance. It is how we remain grounded in Truth.
